Contributions
While we are pleased to see editorial contributions from readers regarding matters relevant to Traction, it would be helpful if the following guidelines are followed:
Feature material:
While we have a variety of material on file for use in future issues, there are opportunities for editorial contributions to Traction (and its associated Annual), as we like to include balanced coverage of different classes, eras and geographic areas. People sometimes query why there are not features on 'Such and such…' when the answer is usually because no one has contributed anything on that particular subject! There is a need for one or two-page features on themed subjects to provide a balance with larger features.
In the first instance, please contact the editor with an outline of any proposed feature or photographic spread. Please include all your contact details.

Photographs:
We can accept good quality prints, transparencies and digital images (e-mailed or on disks). It is helpful if you use e-mail that you send low res images in the first instance to enable us to assess their suitability.
If they are required for publication, higher res versions will be requested.
For publication purposes, digital images should be at least 300+ dpi and x 19cms width. Please do not send similar or identical pictures which have been submitted to other publications. Please include correct postage and packaging if you require the material to be returned to you. Keep us up-to-date with any changes of address. We often return material to contributors only for these to be sent back due to a change of address, wasting valuable time and money. Please include your mail address for reference if we need to pay you for your contributions.
Current material:
There is very limited need for current day coverage in Traction as the magazine is primarily interested in past events. A small amount of relevant current day material is used on a 'as required' basis. Each months 100s of photographs are received which are of little use to this publication (and sometimes covering classes such as 66s and 67s or modern units, which are outside the magazine's remit). Please do not send us material of no use to this publication - or that which is intended for other publications. Please include your mail address for reference if we need to pay you for your contributions.
Letters:
All postal contributions and your letters should be addressed to: Richard Wilson, TPO, Traction, The Maltings, West Street, Bourne, Lincs PE10 9PH. Please include your full name and address details, whether or not you require this to be published.
Material on file:
If you require, for whatever reason, the return of any of your material we hold on file, please contact us and it will be returned ASAP. Some material has been held for a long time because we do not have current contact details for these contributors. Please include your mail address for reference if we need to return your contributions.
Payment:
Payment is made for all published photographs and feature material that appears in Traction and its associated Annual. Payment is made per published picture for individual pictures or per published page for text and photographs for features. If required, payments can be made to relevant preservation groups to help their fund raising. For current payment rates, please contact the editor. No payment is usually made for previously published pictures or those which have appeared in one or more other publications. Payment is made on a 'one-off' publication basis.
