Trackwork volunteers needed

(25/09/2009 11:50:14)

The Midland Railway – Butterley is embarking on an ambitious track improvement programme and is on the look out for volunteers to help. The railway has acquired a large quantity of sleepers already and is launching an appeal for more volunteers to help with the hard work of replacing the old sleepers. The track through the Golden Valley part of the line is planned for work over the Autumn and Winter. Alan Calladine the Midland Railway Trust Development Officer said: 'We are looking to build up a team of people to help our track workers on this section of the railway. The work will appeal to people who enjoy working in the outdoors on a worthwhile project in a very attractive part of Derbyshire.' Anyone interested can get in touch with the railway by phone on 01773 747674, by post at Butterley Station, Ripley, Derbyshire, DE5 3QZ or via the website at www.midlandrailwaycentre.co.uk
